Donor Appreciation 2015

Our first program was a success because of you!

JANUARY 18, 2016- Our team wants to formally thank everyone that supported One Step Initiative, Inc. Through your prayers, mentorship, and donations, we were able to successfully launch our study abroad program for underprivileged and underrepresented students.

Our Youth Global Ambassadors had an unimaginable experience in Ghana, West Africa. In 2015, we were able to provide professional development, community engagement, intercultural travel experiences for our Youth Global Ambassadors. Inner city students within the tristate region were issued their first passports and through the support of our donors, students from Whitehaven High School, Melrose High School, and Southwind High School were able to embark on their first international education experience in West Africa with a brief stop in Europe.

While in Ghana, highlights of our Youth Global Ambassadors’ experience included tours of the Kwame Nkrumah Museum and Mausoleum dedicated to Ghana’s first democratic President; visited the Gold Coast community and mines in Obuasi; witnessed the celebration of the Ashanti King, Asantehene and Ashanti Kingdom during the Akwasidae Festival at Manhiya Palace; immersed in community exchange with the chief and villagers of Lake Bosomtwe in Abono; toured the Elmina Castle Dungeons in Cape Coast to study the starting point of the transatlantic slave trade that led to the prominence of Africans in America; and met with African Union Ambassador H.E. Dr. Erieka Bennett of Diaspora African Forum (AUDAF) in the capital city of Accra.

We are continuing our efforts to deliver our mission, “Education beyond borders,” into the new year. With our re-entry program, 2015 Youth Global Ambassadors will be able to share their experiences with a new group of students through service, leadership, and engagement in their communities.
