Memphis has a high school dropout rate of 30%, with more than 7,000 students leaving the educational system every year. Melrose High is one of 70 schools in the city classified as “under-performing,” and also located in one Shelby County’s most economically challenged areas. 4 out of 5 of our teens have never traveled outside of the city limits. Often times the family simply can’t afford to go anywhere else. The OSI program is designed to help disassociate under-performing from lost cause.
